ON DENSITY

Density doesn't need to mean high rises. In beautiful cities like Copenhagen and Montreal, most of the housing is 3-4 stories tall with 50-60 people per acre. Such places are the opposite of sprawl. These cities have a wonderfully high quality of life and are home to healthy, active populations. Modern sprawl forces us to waste time driving— which consumes more energy while generally reducing levels of physical fitness. A comfortable density is in fact more "green" than driving your hybrid in all directions to and from your compost-field-surrounded "green" home thats miles from anywhere.

On DURABILITY

If you consider that quality is inversely proportional to size in budget-terms, we find that better-built buildings without excess square footage enable an ultimately more comfortable and affordable lifestyle. We concentrate on meeting a demand for people who only wish to live with belongings they hope to enjoy for years and years, and who would prefer something being well-made and beautiful. This goes for owner-occupants as well as for renters who want an inspiring and unique place to live. The less the footprint, the less there is to mess with and to maintain. The end result is more time and more freedom.

ON CHARLESTON

Charleston is widely considered by afficianados and experts to be a masterpiece of traditional urban design. Despite the city's recent popularity the population of the peninsula has actually declined drastically since World War II. We hope to recapture the vitality of what used to be here by repopulating parts of the historic district and restoring a culture of people living in beautiful surroundings as close neighbors once again.  It is an honor to work in this city. and we strive with each project to not make a blot on Charleston (or on the earth) but to create a lovely place worth saving...or at least worthy of falling into a noble ruin a few centuries down the road.
